A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth

and the tissues connected to those teeth. It is made of acrylic plastic and sometimes porcelain and metal materials. A denture closely resembles natural gum tissue and teeth and can be made to provide facial support and a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Premium quality cosmetic denture teeth that have varying degrees of translucency and layers of color can be used in a denture to ideally replicate the look of your natural teeth.

Complete dentures replace all of the teeth, while partial dentures fill in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevent other teeth from shifting position. Complete dentures are “immediate” or “conventional.” An immediate denture is inserted on the same day, immediately following the removal of the natural teeth. The immediate denture acts as a ‘Band-Aid’ to protect the tissues and reduces bleeding after tooth extraction. The conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed.

A partial denture is for people who still have some of their natural teeth. Patients of any age may lose some or all of their teeth and may require a denture of some sort. Because teeth are a permanent part of the body, tooth loss can have an emotional impact on some people. It is important to talk to Drs. Resuta about any fears, anxiety, or other emotions you are feeling about tooth loss.

Valplast Dentures

Anyone considering having partial dentures may want to look at Valplast dentures. These are partial dentures that are quite different from regular acrylic dentures because they are made from a flexible and unbreakable nylon resin, called Valplast. This type of denture is tried and tested and has been around for more than five decades.

The beauty of Valplast

is that its flexibility allows it to adapt to the constant movement within the mouth, which allows for greater ease in eating and talking which in turn gives patients far more confidence. It is also far less obtrusive than ordinary partial dentures as it is designed to blend in with the mouth, and it doesn’t need to use metal clasps to keep it in place. These factors give it a much higher aesthetic value and many people forget they are wearing them because they are much thinner and more comfortable than ordinary dentures. Valplast™ is highly translucent which makes the partial almost invisible in the mouth. The material used is quite stain resistant and doesn’t easily absorb odor.
